Tips and Tricks in Our Educational Home Appliances Blog

  1. Tips to Keep Your Washer and Dryer in Tip Top Shape

Tips to Keep Your Washer and Dryer in Tip Top Shape

Your washer and dryer are the unsung workhorses of your home. You don’t realize how much you depend on these appliances until they break down. These tips can help you keep both machines running in peak condition for as long as possible.

Don’t Wear Out Your Washing Machine

    1. Know your hoses. Look for bulging, cracking, fraying, or leaking hoses. Replace hoses if you see any issues or if it’s been five or more years since they were last replaced.
    2. Keep it on the level. Is your washing machine vibrating, rocking, or moving across the floor during the spin cycle? If so, you’ll need to balance it by raising or lowering the machine’s legs to prevent damage. Or, consider a pedestal for maximum stability.
    3. Learn this lint lesson. It’s not just dryers that have lint filters. Depending on your machine, the lint collector may be located in the agitator tube, or near the top of the washtub. Check your owner’s manual to locate it and be sure to clean it regularly.
    4. Wash the washer. It sounds funny, but washing machines need to be washed. Run a mixture of 2 cups of hot water, 1 cup of vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of baking soda through an empty wash cycle to remove mildew, soap residue, and hard water deposits.
    5. Obliterate odors. Between loads, leave the washer lid open on top-loading washers like the Avanti Platinum, or leave the door open on front-loading washers like this Electrolux model. This allows the unit to dry out and prevents the mildew that causes bad odors.
    6. Measure detergent Diligently. Too much soap can cause excess wear and tear on your washer. Read the instruction manual to find out exactly how much detergent you should be using. And if you have a high-efficiency machine like this Whirlpool, then be sure to use high-efficiency detergent. No matter what kind of detergent you use, a detergent dispenser can help ensure exact amounts.
    7. Avoid overloading. For maximum efficiency, never fill the washer above three-quarters full, and wash heavy items in smaller loads.

    Don’t Damage Your Dryer

    1. Another lint lesson. Letting lint build up can impact the dryer’s efficiency and may even become a fire hazard. Clean the lint trap regularly.
    2. Get secure. For optimal dryer performance, properly secure the hoses, vents, and cords. Reinforce connections with duct tape to prevent gaps and slipping.
    3. Avoid overloading: Just like with the washer, you want to keep dryer loads small so you don’t overwork your machine.
    4. Clean the interior vent: Clothes still feel damp after the dryer has stopped? That means that you should clean the interior vent. To do so, disconnect the exhaust vent from the back of the dryer and vacuum up any lint or debris. Or, look into a dryer like this Samsung to get smartphone alerts when the vents need to be cleaned or other maintenance is required.
    5. Don’t forget outside: You should periodically check to make sure air is coming out of the exhaust vent located on your home’s exterior while the dryer is on. If you don’t feel any air coming from the vent, turn off the dryer and look for blockages. If there is a blockage, you may have to remove the duct to clean it out. Consult with a professional before making any changes to your dryer’s exhaust duct.

Of course, the best way to prevent laundry problems is to start with a high-quality washer and dryer. Reno’s Appliances is proud to carry an extensive inventory of world-class brands that are known for dependability and durability like Samsung, Whirlpool, GE, Electrolux, and many others.

  2. Throwing a Perfect Little Get-Together

    Throwing a Perfect Little Get-Together

Do you want to be the get-together master? Have you always dreamed of throwing the perfect party that your friends talk about for years to come? If so, Reno’s Appliance can help, as they have the items you need to throw a get-together to remember.

    It Starts with the Grill

Your guests aren’t just coming to say hello. They are coming with the promise of eating some tasty food. You can keep that promise with the help of a barbecue grill from Reno’s Appliance. You simply can’t beat a pro barbecue grill. Consider purchasing a pro grill with a rotisserie so that you can cook certain foods more evenly. Your guests will rave about the food for years to come.

Reno’s Appliance has other grill options as well. If you aren’t sure which one is right for your grilling needs, one of our store associates can help. Let the staff member know what you want out of a grill, and he or she will match you up to the right one.

    Don’t Forget the Food Warmer

Not everything you decide to cook will work on the grill. For instance, you will likely have some baked goods or side dishes that you’ll cook in the kitchen beforehand and want to keep warm throughout the party. That’s easy to do with a cart mounted food warmer. Start by taking food out of the kitchen and putting it into the warmer, and then add the items from the grill if they are not eaten right away. Your guests will be full and satisfied all party long, with no food going to waste or in need of reheating.

    Keep Everything on Hand

You want to be the best host around, and that’s impossible if you are constantly running inside to grab one more thing. Avoid that problem with some access drawers or tower drawers. These drawers can hold everything from your cold beverages to your marinating meats. You can also store your kitchen supplies in these drawers. The convenience they offer is much nicer than running inside, away from your guests.

    Keep the Drinks Flowing

Are you looking to serve drinks such as wine at the party, that are often better chilled? Forget the hassle of storing drinks inside or constantly returning drinks to the fridge when you can simply pick up a wine chiller from Reno’s. Chill dozens of bottles of wine at once so you’ll always be ready for the next party. You can also get a dual zone wine/beverage cooler so you can include sodas, beer, and other drinks available for your guests.

    Don’t Forget the Ice

It doesn’t matter how cold you keep the drinks, as some people prefer their beverage with ice. Reno’s Appliance has a variety of icemakers available, including built-in units, outdoor units, and more. Stop by the showroom and pick out the best icemaker for your next party.

    Turn up the Music

You’re a great entertainer, but even you can’t keep the party going with funny stories alone. You need some dance floor or background music to set the mood. Pick up a home theater system before your next party and be prepared for whatever your guests request. A high-quality system will ensure that your next party stands out.

  3. Luxury Appliances: Worth the Price?

    Luxury Appliances: Worth the Price?

If you’re shopping for new appliances, you’re going to come across a wide variety of options. You’ll see basic, no-frills appliances for a few hundred dollars and luxury appliances, which come with a list of features, at much higher prices.

This may leave you wondering: Is it really worth it to get high-end appliances? The short answer is yes. Here are five reasons why:

    1. Performance

Basic appliances cannot perform the way high-end appliances can. A basic stove burner might only get about 5,000 BTUs (a measurement of heat generated by the burner). A high-end range like this Bosch 700 Series has burners with 16,000 and 12,500 BTUs. So that means water boils faster, and you can achieve a perfectly seared steak. But it’s not just about power, as these burners can burn very low to heat your most delicate sauces.

Or in the case of washing machines, a luxury model like this Electrolux Perfect Steam Washer has enhanced washing action, stain-lifting technology, and improved temperature controls. As a result, your clothes get cleaner while being treated more gently.

    2. Long-Lasting Durability

Appliance manufacturers put more time into research and testing their luxury appliances that they do their standard models. That’s one reason the price tag is higher. But, the result is products that are more durable than standard models.

For example, when you’re looking at luxury appliances, whether it’s a refrigerator like this Jenn-Air model or this Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, or anything else, be sure to “kick the tires” a bit. Open doors, pull out racks and drawers, examine control knobs and buttons, take a closer look at the surfaces, and touch everything. Luxury appliances are precisely engineered and built with superior materials to provide consistent performance year after year. So that means more time enjoying your appliances and fewer calls to the repair technician.

    3. Features with Purpose

It’s understandable to look at the extra features you get with luxury appliances and ask: “Do I really need that?” In the case of luxury appliances, you generally get what you pay for with extras that have been thoughtfully engineered to make life easier. For example,

      • Ranges like this Jenn-Air model with Downdraft Ventilation capture smoke and odors right at the cooking surface to clear the air without a hood.
      • Dishwashers like this Viking and Jenn-Air have flexible rack designs, more precise wash settings, built-in water filters and softeners, and much more.
      • Washing machines like this Bosch 300 Series has an allergen cycle to kill common allergy triggers and ActiveWater Technology for efficiency.
    4. Fantastic Finishes

Luxury appliances give you more to choose from than your standard white, black, or stainless steel. There’s nothing that says you can’t have some fun with color. Maybe a cherry-red stove with a refrigerator to match? Colorful appliances are at once elegant and playful.

You can also integrate your appliances into your kitchen by matching the front of your appliance with your cabinets. This Viking refrigerator and dishwasher show just a few of the many possible looks you can achieve with custom paneling. Or see how this Jenn-Air model dishwasher aligns perfectly with adjacent cabinetry for a sleek, modern look.

    5. Energy Efficiency

Luxury appliances also tend to be the most energy efficient models on the market. So while you do pay more up front, you’ll see savings on your gas and electric bill. Some appliances, like this Electrolux refrigerator, is not only energy efficient, but features a vacation mode and a Sabbath mode so it saves even more energy when you’re not using it.

When it comes to appliances, you definitely get what you pay for. Consider spending a bit more on appliances now to get years of performance and enjoyment later. The friendly and knowledgeable sales staff at Reno’s Appliance can help you find the best appliance that fits your budget.

  5. A New Way to Cook: Wolf’s Convection Steam Oven

A New Way to Cook: Wolf’s Convection Steam Oven

If you love to cook, your oven might just be your best friend. However, your typical conventional or convection oven can only do so much to keep your highly anticipated meal from drying out and losing flavor. Luckily for you, the prestigious kitchen suppliers, Sub-Zero and Wolf, have introduced their Convection Steam Oven by Wolf. Once you cook with one, there’s no going back.

The Convection Steam Oven, as hinted by its name, adds steam to the cooking process, while offering a convection setting when necessary. Original steam ovens lacked the convection setting offered by Wolf, allowing for less variety in the cooking process. Now you can combine the health and flavor benefits of a steam oven with the even, quick cooking of a convection oven. Plus, each unit is installed with a unique digital technology that is able to sense the amount and size of the food you are cooking and will self-adjust for optimum results. Cooking has never been so easy!

Begin the cooking process with steam to keep food vibrant, hydrated, and rich in vitamins and minerals. Did you know that steaming vegetables can help them retain up to 22% more vitamins than traditional oven cooking? These ovens will work perfectly with anyone trying to keep a healthy lifestyle without worrying about the time needed for added efforts. Plus, you don’t need to enhance the flavor with any extra fats or oils. Then, if you are cooking something like a soufflé or bread, switch on the convection setting to create the perfect browning on top. Oh, and did we mention that when you are cooking multiple foods at once, the Convection Steam Oven will not transfer one food’s flavor to the other? Each food item keeps its own taste for a meal that is sure to impress.

These ovens are also great for leftovers, which typically lose most of their flavor after being reheated. You are now able to use the steam to help reinfuse moisture in the food, keeping it fresh and flavorful. No more dried up meats or lackluster vegetables you’d rather not spend time eating.

A final, important detail of every kitchen appliance, is how they fit into your existing kitchen design. Some ovens are clunky and can become an eyesore that sticks out amongst other appliances. The ovens made by Wolf are modern, sleek and can be installed flush with your cabinetry for a seamless integration. There is no bulk or protruding edges. The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your home, and you should feel a sense of pride in your time there.

Sub-Zero and Wolf has a great history of product performance, as well as an amazing repair history when needed. Their reliable products are sure to change the way you cook.
