  1. The Ultimate Graduation Party Planning with Reno's

The Ultimate Graduation Party Planning with Reno's

It’s June and countless students across the country are graduating from high school, college, and post-graduate schools. If you’re the proud parent, grandparent, or spouse of a graduate then you’re probably thinking about hosting a graduation party to celebrate their achievement. Graduation party planning can seem like an overwhelming task, but we wanted to offer a few tips to help make your party planning a bit easier.

    Have a House Party

The first thing you should check off your graduation party planning list is where to have the party. Most people opt to have their graduation parties in their own backyards—and for good reason. It’s cost-effective, casual, and June weather is ideal for outside events. Also, a high school graduate who will be going away to college may appreciate having a party in the comfort of their own home before heading off to their dorm.

If you have your heart set on an at-home party in the backyard, then you’ll definitely need to make sure you have all of the right outdoor appliances to accommodate your guests.

For example, it may be time to upgrade to a pro grill that has a larger capacity and all kinds of features that help you perfect your grilling game. Or, you can add to your existing set up with accessories like a grill cart or a smoker.

An outdoor refrigerator is another item you might want to consider. These units are more compact than full-size indoor kitchen units, come with thicker insulation, and are equipped with more powerful components so food stays cold during warmer days. Plus, you won’t find yourself making trips back and forth to the kitchen refrigerator all day.

Outdoor beer dispensers are also a great convenience for large outdoor parties. Instead of having your guests dig around an ice-filled cooler for a cold one, they can help themselves to a perfectly chilled glass of beer straight from the tap.

The best part is, not only will you get great use out of these items for the graduation party, but you’ll have them for backyard barbecues all summer long.

    Think Up a Theme

One of the more exciting aspects of graduation party planning is choosing a theme. You can choose a theme based around your graduate’s career goals, college major, school, or sport they’ll be playing in college. There are all kinds of fun possibilities. But don’t stress about a theme if you can’t think of one or the graduate doesn’t want one. Parties with friends, music, and food are still fun even without a theme.

    Use Invitation Etiquette

Here are some quick tips for graduation invites:

    • Use paper invites sent through the mail.
    • Send invites at least six weeks prior to the event.
    • Request RSVPs at least two weeks prior to the event.
    • Make sure you pick out thank you cards when picking out invites so your graduate has them ready to go shortly after the party.

    Make the Food Fun

Serve delicious food that’s easy for folks to eat as they mingle. Here’s a list of classic crowd pleasers:

    • Bruschetta on grill toasted bread
    • Flatbread pizza
    • Pigs in a blanket
    • Mini smoked sausages
    • Beef sliders
    • Grilled veggie kabobs
    • Grilled chicken or shrimp skewers
    • Crab cakes
    • Mini sandwiches
    • Chicken wings
    • Cheese quesadillas
    • Mini egg rolls

Be sure to provide plenty of water, soda, and juice. If you like, you can serve beer and wine for the adults. And of course, no party is complete without dessert. Get your graduates’ favorite cake, cupcakes, cookies, or ice cream and you’ll be all set.

    Party Perfection Is Possible

Graduation party planning requires some thought and creativity, but remember, above all else they should be fun affairs that match your graduate’s personality. Use the ideas above and throw a party that’s sure to be a good time.

  2. Skip the Flowers-Say Happy Mother's Day with Home Appliances Mom Actually Wants

Skip the Flowers-Say Happy Mother's Day with Home Appliances Mom Actually Wants

Are you trying to think of a unique gift idea for Mother’s Day this year? Do you think mom might be tired of the same old brunch and flowers routine? Consider saying Happy Mother’s Day with a gift of a new home appliance.

Now, we’re not suggesting you get your mom a new vacuum or toaster. Rather, get your mom an appliance that matches her passions and interests. At Reno’s we’re experts in home appliances and wanted to make a few Mother’s Day gift suggestions for you.

Show Mom You Love Her a Whole Latte

Does mom love coffee? If she does, then maybe a new coffee maker is in order. But we’re not talking about a drip machine that you can get at any department store. Elevate mom’s coffee experience with a built-in coffee maker. These sophisticated machines are installed in or under cabinets to free up counter space. Beyond that, these machines enable mom to pre-program her exact coffee preferences, so she gets perfect, coffee-shop quality java day after day.

Mom may also appreciate this Wolf coffee system. She can fill the whole bean reservoir with her favorite roast, and with press of a button, the beans are ground fresh and coffee is brewed in minutes. Of course pre-ground coffee can be scooped in as well. The Wolf coffee system is easy to use, clean, and install. It’s guaranteed to start mom’s day the right way.

Win the Day with a Wine Fridge

Even for the casual wine drinker, a wine fridge is a great gift idea for many reasons. For example, a wine fridge stores wine at the perfect temperature and humidity, which extends its shelf life and keeps it flavorful. Regular refrigerators are too cold for proper storage and cabinets are too warm. In addition, bottles of wine are stored securely, yet gently to prevent cracks, spills, and any other damage. Some of the best brands of these home appliances include Sub-ZeroSummit, and Marvel.

Here’s a bonus idea: Pick up a few bottles of mom’s favorite vintage in addition to the wine fridge. Put them in the fridge to start her collection, but keep one out and make a toast—to mom of course.

    Cook up a Smart Idea

We all love our mom’s cooking, but does she love to cook? Whether it’s gourmet meals, old fashioned comfort food, or a secret recipe for chocolate chip cookies, if your mom enjoys cooking, then she’ll love the convenience of a “smart” oven.

Smart ovens can be connected to the Internet and controlled with a smart phone. For example, mom can use her phone to start preheating her GE Profile Wall Oven or GE Profile Range when she’s out and about, so it’s at the perfect temperature right when she walks in the door.

Alternatively, maybe she’s already home, but busy with other things when the oven’s timer beeps. There’s no need for her to run to the kitchen. Mom can turn the oven off or reduce the oven’s temperature using her phone.

There are even some ovens that will listen to mom’s voice commands. It’s true! Jenn-Air has partnered with Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service, enabling mom to use her voice to control any connected product.

Simple voice commands have been created for everything from preheating and setting timers to changing temperatures and cooking modes. Some commands include:

    • “Alexa, tell Jenn-Air to preheat the oven to 350 degrees.”
    • “Alexa, tell Jenn-Air to reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees”
    • "Alexa, tell Jenn-Air to set the oven timer for 12 minutes."

Mom will love how easy it is to use. If this sounds like something mom would love, then make sure to visit Reno’s Appliance and ask about the Jenn-Air 30” Double Wall Oven and the Jenn-Air Microwave/Wall Oven. And, if you’re interested in other Alexa-enabled appliances, you can ask to see the Jenn-Air 72” Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator.

Still not sure which home appliance will say Happy Mother’s Day in just the right way? Then stop by Reno’s Appliance in Paterson, NJ to view our wide selection of home appliances. Our friendly sales staff can make recommendations and guide you towards choosing the perfect gift for mom.

    3. Add all other ingredients to a shaker filled with ice.

  4. 6 Simple Steps to Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

6 Simple Steps to Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

Most people may not think about their refrigerator’s condenser coils too often—or even know what they are—but keeping them clean is an essential part of refrigerator maintenance.

To understand why it’s so important to clean those coils, we’re going to first delve into a bit of grade-school science. We all know that when two things of different temperatures are near each other, the hotter surface cools and the colder surface warms. That principle (officially known as the second law of thermodynamics) is at play in your refrigerator. A pump pushes a gas refrigerant through the coils, where it cools down and becomes a liquid. The cool liquid then sucks all of the warm air out of the refrigerator and freezer.

Over time, dust, dirt, and pet hair can easily collect on the coils. When the coils are dirty, they can’t efficiently release heat. That means your compressor must work harder and use more energy, which will shorten the lifespan of your refrigerator.

Fortunately, you can help keep your refrigerator running efficiently by cleaning the coils a few times a year. Even more good news is that it’s not at all difficult. As appliance experts, we wanted to share 6 simple steps to clean your refrigerator’s coils:

Step 1. Unplug your refrigerator or turn off the circuit breaker that delivers power to the unit.

Step 2. Remove the cover panel to reveal the coils. On most units, the coils are located below the unit behind a kick plate, or near the top of the unit behind a trim plate. Either one of these plates should simply lift off. On older units, the coils may already be exposed behind the refrigerator.

Step 3. Use a long-handled refrigerator brush to dislodge any dust and debris around the coils. Be careful not to bend or damage the coils.

Step 4. Use the narrow hose attachment on your vacuum to suck up all the dust. Move the hose along all surfaces as carefully as you can.

Step 5. When you are finished vacuuming, use a damp cloth or rag to gently wipe any remaining dust from the coils.

Step 6. Replace the cover panel by snapping it back into place. Then plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker.

Following these simple steps 3 or 4 times a year will definitely help you extend the lifespan of your refrigerator. If you find that it’s still not running great even after you’ve cleaned the coils and performed other maintenance, then it may be time for a new refrigerator.

Reno’s Appliance has a large selection of refrigerators from top-of-the-line brands including Sub-Zero, Bosch, and Frigidaire in a range of popular styles such as French door, bottom freezer, and top freezer. We also carry compact refrigerators, which are perfect for small apartment, dorm rooms, or the office. 5. 6 Reasons Why You’ll Win with a Wine Fridge

6 Reasons Why You’ll Win with a Wine Fridge

Even if you consider yourself to be just a casual wine drinker, you likely have a few bottles of vino stored around your house. Maybe you’ve got an uncorked bottle or two in the refrigerator and a few bottles in your cupboard or liquor cabinet. With the holidays approaching, you’ll probably even receive a few more bottles of wine as gifts. It may be time for you to start thinking about a wine fridge.

Do I Really Need a Wine Fridge?

Wine fridges aren’t just for connoisseurs. These days, more and more people consider the wine fridge to be another kitchen appliance they can’t do without. In fact, here are 6 great reasons you should get a wine fridge.

    1. Constant Temperature and Humidity Control: Wines are sensitive to temperature and humidity. A cabinet is too warm and too dry for proper wine storage and regular refrigerators are not the ideal spot for long-term storage. By storing your wine in a wine fridge, you know that you are keeping it at a correct and constant humidity level and temperature (50% to 70% humidity and 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit).
    2. Extended Shelf Life: Open bottles of wine can last for a year or longer if stored in a wine fridge, whereas open bottles can last for only a month in your regular refrigerator and even less time without any refrigeration.
    3. Protection: Bottles of wine are stored securely, yet gently in a wine fridge. The racks cradle the bottles to prevent cracks, spills, and any other damage. You’re not only protecting against potential messes, but you’re also protecting your investment, especially if you enjoy more expensive bottles of wine.
    4. Organization: With a wine fridge, you have one central location that you know is just for your wine. Organize your collection by vintage, color, region, or in any way that makes sense to you.
    5. Horizontal storage: Wine fridges store wine bottles horizontally, which keeps the cork from drying out. A dried out cork will let small amounts of air into the bottle, which will damage the wine.
    6. Optimal Taste: At the end of the day, you want your wine to taste good. A wine fridge stores your wine in the ideal setting, so that you can be sure you can always enjoy consistent, flavorful wine.

What should I consider when purchasing a wine fridge?

A quick Internet search of the term “wine fridge” will reveal hundreds of options. To find what type of wine fridge is best for you, consider these 5 factors:

    1. Available Space: Start with the obvious. How much space do you have in your kitchen for a wine fridge? Some models can be very small, with a 12-bottle capacity, larger ones can hold several dozen bottles, while still others can hold well over 100 bottles. Some are stand-alone units, while others can be built into existing cabinetry.
    2. Size of Your Collection: Don’t just consider the number of bottles you own, but look forward. Do you plan on growing your collection? How big of an inventory do you anticipate having on hand?
    3. Temperature options: Some wine fridges come equipped with two separate temperature zones for more precise control. Is that a feature you’d like or do you think it’s not necessary?
    4. Hardware: Some fridges have fancy wooden racks, while others boast stainless steel racks. There’s no difference in performance, so it’s really just personal preference.
    5. Price: Like any other purchase, a lot depends on your budget. Wine fridges can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. If you’re interested in becoming a true collector, then you may want to make a larger investment. If you’re just looking for good wine storage for a dozen bottles or less, then there’s no need to break the bank.

Reno’s Appliance has a variety of wine refrigerators and wine storage options from the best brands including Sub-Zero, Summit, Whirlpool, Marvel, and more. Stop by our showroom in Paterson, NJ to view our selection.

  6. Throwing a Perfect Little Get-Together

    Throwing a Perfect Little Get-Together

Do you want to be the get-together master? Have you always dreamed of throwing the perfect party that your friends talk about for years to come? If so, Reno’s Appliance can help, as they have the items you need to throw a get-together to remember.

    It Starts with the Grill

Your guests aren’t just coming to say hello. They are coming with the promise of eating some tasty food. You can keep that promise with the help of a barbecue grill from Reno’s Appliance. You simply can’t beat a pro barbecue grill. Consider purchasing a pro grill with a rotisserie so that you can cook certain foods more evenly. Your guests will rave about the food for years to come.

Reno’s Appliance has other grill options as well. If you aren’t sure which one is right for your grilling needs, one of our store associates can help. Let the staff member know what you want out of a grill, and he or she will match you up to the right one.

    Don’t Forget the Food Warmer

Not everything you decide to cook will work on the grill. For instance, you will likely have some baked goods or side dishes that you’ll cook in the kitchen beforehand and want to keep warm throughout the party. That’s easy to do with a cart mounted food warmer. Start by taking food out of the kitchen and putting it into the warmer, and then add the items from the grill if they are not eaten right away. Your guests will be full and satisfied all party long, with no food going to waste or in need of reheating.

    Keep Everything on Hand

You want to be the best host around, and that’s impossible if you are constantly running inside to grab one more thing. Avoid that problem with some access drawers or tower drawers. These drawers can hold everything from your cold beverages to your marinating meats. You can also store your kitchen supplies in these drawers. The convenience they offer is much nicer than running inside, away from your guests.

    Keep the Drinks Flowing

Are you looking to serve drinks such as wine at the party, that are often better chilled? Forget the hassle of storing drinks inside or constantly returning drinks to the fridge when you can simply pick up a wine chiller from Reno’s. Chill dozens of bottles of wine at once so you’ll always be ready for the next party. You can also get a dual zone wine/beverage cooler so you can include sodas, beer, and other drinks available for your guests.

    Don’t Forget the Ice

It doesn’t matter how cold you keep the drinks, as some people prefer their beverage with ice. Reno’s Appliance has a variety of icemakers available, including built-in units, outdoor units, and more. Stop by the showroom and pick out the best icemaker for your next party.

    Turn up the Music

You’re a great entertainer, but even you can’t keep the party going with funny stories alone. You need some dance floor or background music to set the mood. Pick up a home theater system before your next party and be prepared for whatever your guests request. A high-quality system will ensure that your next party stands out.

  7. Kitchen Design Ideas

    Kitchen Design Ideas

Have you ever wondered what you could do with a spare kitchen nook area? As a home appliance store, we wanted to provide some helpful ideas that you could utilize in your kitchen.

Add a hutch. If you have extra space along a wall, consider adding a hutch. Find one that matches your style and the overall look of the home. You can store extra plates and cups, a coffee maker, and perhaps lay out breakfast pastries.

Space to store your wine. Do you enjoy drinking a glass of wine with dinner? Step up your wine game by purchasing a wine refrigerator or two. Find one that will fit underneath a counter to allow you to store glasses overhead and uncork bottles.

Built-in coffee machine. Amp up your morning coffee with a built-in coffee machine. If you have space in between cabinets, feel free to add the machine. It would be even better if you have a pullout cabinet underneath to store mugs and your favorite coffee beans.

Minibar. If you constantly entertain guests in your home, it might be beneficial to incorporate a minibar into your kitchen design. Adding low beverage fridges, liquor storage, wine racks, and glasses will make your home the party central.

Storage space. You can never have too much storage, especially if you have a large family. Use the storage space for extra pantry goods, bowls, small appliances, and to display your favorite design pieces.

  8. Choosing a Wine Refrigerator

    Choosing a Wine Refrigerator

After accumulating a few of your favorite wines, now comes the challenge of properly storing your newly found cases. For some with a basement or other cool area of their home where they can store wine at an appropriate temperature and humidity, the solution is relatively simple and inexpensive. However, for the rest of us the best way to keep our wine at 55 degrees Fahrenheit may be to invest in a wine refrigerator, or wine cooler.

From small under-cabinet models to large units capable of holding hundreds of bottles, wine refrigerators come in all shapes and sizes. For a newcomer to wine collecting, deciding which type to buy can be an overwhelming experience.

Take some of these factors into consideration when making a selection.

    ·      Size. If you are unsure how large your collection may eventually become, experts suggest starting out with a 40-bottle cooler. It would be small enough to fit in most kitchen environments without compromising too much space, yet it will meet the goals of a collector starting out and would be big enough for entertaining.

    ·      Quality and Features. A basic wine refrigerator will store your wine at the proper temperature and relatively humidity. Wine refrigerators vary in quality, with higher quality units offering separate cooling zones for storing different blends. Other high-end features include pull-out shelving for different sized bottles, UV-protected glass, remote controls, and digital temperature control panels.

    ·      Coolers or Racks? Depending upon how you plan to consume your collection, a combination of a wine refrigerator and wine rack in a cool space may offer the most affordable alternative. Wines can be stored outside a cooling system on a built-in rack - perhaps those that you plan to consume within a relatively short period of time (a month or two), or those not of great value. This would free up room in the wine refrigerator for more valuable bottles, that you may be saving for a special occasion, or a wanting to keep in your collection for a longer period of time.
