Top-Load Washers Will Revamp Your Washing Ways

Why Top-Load Washers Come Out On Top

Front-load washing machines have become more popular in recent years. Manufacturers tout their benefits, which include energy efficiency, less water use, more features, and stylish designs. But when it comes down to it, many people still prefer top-load washers. At Reno’s Appliance, we are washing machine experts and wanted to share these top 5 benefits of top-load washers.

  1. They’re less expensive.
Top-load washing machines are generally less expensive than front-load washers. Some may argue that front loaders have a higher efficiency rating, which will save money in the long run. However, manufacturers have been introducing more top-load washers that rival the efficiency of their front-load counterparts, and still cost hundreds of dollars less. It’s also worth mentioning that if you’re on a tight budget, you can easily find a used top-loader washing machine for sale. Front-loading machines are still new enough that there's not a big market for used or refurbished models.
  2. They’re more reliable.
Top-load washers have been around for decades, so manufacturers know the ins and outs of what it takes to build a reliable machine. Front-load machines are made with newer technologies, which a) may be less reliable, and b) cause issues that manufacturers didn’t foresee. For example, front-load machines are sometimes prone to mold and mildew buildup, which will need to be cleaned regularly to prevent odors. Some people have also reported water leakage due to faulty door seals or leaky water hoses.
  3. They don’t require special detergent.
Something many people don’t realize about front-loading washing machines is that the majority of them are high-efficiency models, which means they require special laundry detergent called, obviously enough, high-efficiency detergent. Using regular detergent in any high-efficiency machine may actually cause damage. Plus, high-efficiency detergent tends to be more expensive than traditional laundry detergent. If having to purchase a special type of detergent isn’t appealing to you then choose a standard top-load washer and keep using your favorite brand.
  4. There’s a wider selection.
Again, because top-load washers have been around for so long, you have a lot more to choose from when shopping for a new model. You can choose a basic, inexpensive machine, or opt for something with more bells and whistles at a higher price point. Major manufacturers offer fewer, more expensive choices when it comes to front-load machines.
  5. They’re easier to have repaired.
If your washing machine does break down and you need to call in a professional, then you should know that it’s easier to get a top-load washer repaired. Repairmen are more familiar with top loaders because they’ve been around so long. Plus, replacement parts are more common, which makes them easier and cheaper to obtain. Front-load washing machines, on the other hand, are more complex, and replacement parts may be harder to find. So, in general, the repair may take longer and be more expensive.
